Post No. 167 Inspired Again

I recently went through a period of time, where I lost my motivation to shoot. I don't know what happened... I wasn't sure if it was work, which had been quite taxing between April through the end of last week... or if I had lost the passion for photography (I was pretty sure that was NOT the case). I just wasn't shooting... I'd carry my camera, but just couldn't find the motivation to shoot... Meh... On Friday, my inspiration was re-ignited! :-)

Post No. 166 Friendship

Nyack, NY
We were friends and have grown distant from on e another. But it is right that should be so; let us not dissemble and obscure it, as if it were something to be ashamed of. We are two ships, each of which has its destination and its course; our paths can cross and we can celebrate a feast together, as we did - and when the brave ships lay so peacefully in one harbour and under one sun that it might seem they had already reached their destination and both had one destination. But then the almighty power of our task again drove us apart, to different seas and different climes, and perhaps we shall never see one another again - or perhaps if we do we shall not recognize one another: different seas and sun have changed us! That we had to grow distant from one another is the law over us [...] There is probably a tremendous invisible curve and star orbit within which our so different paths and destinations may be included as tiny stretches of the way - let us raise ourselves to this thought! But our life is too short and our power of vision too weak for us to be more than friends in the sense of that exalted possibility. - And so let us believe in our friendship in the stars, even if we did have to be enemies on earth. ~ Nietzshe

Post No. 165 Monet and Manet

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC
I'm excited that I finally joined the Met, Friday! :)
Here, we have a photograph of two works of two well known French impressionist painters, Claude Monet and Edouard Manet. I'm no art historian, so I won't discuss the history of the impressionist movement. However, I think it's important to share knowledge, so I've added a wiki link for anyone who wants to educate themselves more on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impressionism

Actually, these silhouetted structures you see are not UFO's, rather they are the observation towers, which were a part of the 1964/1965 NY World's Fair. Click the link below for more information on the Fair...

Post No. 154 View of Tuscan Countryside?

Nyack, NY
While on a photowalk after the most recent installation of "Snowpocalypse" or "Snowmageddon" (I like to refer to this one as "Snowzilla"), I saw what is to me, an ironic, funny and interesting image. I was drawn to the juxtaposition of the fresh coating of snow against the image of the beautifully arid and warm climate of Tuscany, immortalized in the form of a fresco on the terrace wall of a local restaurant (La Fontana). At times, it's difficult to determine which scene is real and which is the painting...

Post No. 150 One in a Trillion

Nyack, NY
"There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
And I have become
Comfortably numb."

Post No. 146 Devohn Walker- Stylist- NYC style icon

NYC -
I've always wanted to photograph Amsterdam Billiards and Bar in Union Square at night... I love the design of the art deco signage and the way the brilliant red neon illuminates the corner of 4th Ave and E. 11th Street. So, after I took the initial image (top), I decided to get closer for more detailed shots... As I walked towards the hall, I noticed a silhouetted figure in front of the neon red billiards sign (second photo). It was a cool-looking scene that I couldn't pass up on. I stepped closer, and the gentleman turned around. He was dressed immaculately, with a striking and distinctive style...one that I had seen before, but couldn't quite picture when or where... He introduced himself as Devohn Walker. He had a pleasant and relaxed demeanor, which complimented his style perfectly. After we conversed for a few minutes, he agreed to allow me to photograph him, I snapped several more photos, including the last two you see in this post... I have to apologize to Devohn that I cut off some of his shoes in the full-body portrait. (My bad...) We exchanged emails, so I could let him know when I posted these photographs, and I was off on my way. As I walked down towards Houston to meet up with my friend, Rok, I remembered where I had seen Devohn before... in a post of the Sartorialist from October, 2008 (here's the link: http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html ) .
Anyhow...Devohn, I hope you like the pics and be well, my friend.
